Among many of the other benefits, one of the best things about having a swimming pool enclosure is that it makes swimming in the winter not only possible, but pleasant, too!
For those of you who don’t yet have a pool enclosure, let’s first imagine what it would be like to be able to swim in the winter. Nice, right? Now imagine that if you swam for two hours a day – you would have no reason to fret because the other 22 hours of every day you will be saving on energy costs and water loss!
Allow us to explain.
Just as the DynaDome enclosure acts as a “greenhouse” in the summer, the same can also be said during the winter. Put simply, the polycarbonate walls of our enclosures trap in warm air heated by the ground and keeps the air at a constant and relatively comfortable temperature as long as it is in the closed position.
The combination of the radiant heat from the pool, the greenhouse effect, and the heat from any secondary source will provide more than enough warmth, creating a pleasant environment for swimming – even in the chilliest days of winter.
To elaborate, depending on your personal preference and location, a secondary source of heat may be required. Don’t worry – there are plenty of ways to keep your pool area warm during the winter, but the swimming pool will be required to be heated with its own heater, and when not in use, we definitely recommend covering it with a solar cover. The cover will keep the pool from losing heat and actually help to retain approximately 95% of the water’s heat. Additionally, a solar cover will also minimize the condensation within the pool area, which is highly important in preventing any visits from Jack Frost and external wall freezing.
Any way you decide to keep your pool area warm during the winter, the ideal temperature for inside the space during non-summer days is 74 degrees for most people.
